What the NDSS DVA concession eligibility changes mean for health professionals and their clients

The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) has made changes to NDSS co-payment funding arrangements, specifically DVA White Card concession eligibility, effective 1 July 2023.

There are no changes to concession eligibility for DVA Gold Card holders and DVA Pension Card holders.

People who are registered with the NDSS and who hold a DVA White Card with diabetes as a DVA accepted condition will continue to receive fully funded NDSS products.

Those who hold a DVA White Card without diabetes listed as a DVA accepted condition will now pay a co-payment when purchasing NDSS products in the same manner as other NDSS registrants.

There is no new co-payment; DVA has identified a small number of people who are currently having their co-payments subsidised by DVA who are ineligible to receive this benefit.

Therefore, DVA is correcting this issue and as a result, the impacted people will pay the same registrant co-payments as other NDSS registrants.

DVA has individually advised any affected clients and provided with the advice that they will need to self-fund the NDSS co-payment when purchasing NDSS products from 1 July 2023.

On 4 July, DVA provided advice about what these changes mean for health professionals and their clients: Improving veteran access to clinically necessary diabetes products.

More information is available on the DVA diabetes webpage.

Veterans with diabetes may also contact the DVA via 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) or [email protected].
