A new series of microcredentials on diabetes medication management is now available on the ADEA Learning Hub. This series is designed for both Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) seeking to refresh their knowledge and those looking to expand their knowledge and skills in medication management for diabetes care.  

Microcredential 1: Diabetes Medications – Glucose lowering agents 

This microcredential provides a comprehensive overview of non-insulin therapies, including oral and injectable glucose lowering agents. It explores the principles of Quality Use of Medicines (QUM), pharmacological actions, and medication regimens, while also giving insights and strategies to manage risks, barriers and potential medication interactions .

Microcredential 2: Diabetes Medications: Insulin therapy 

This microcredential focuses on the role of insulin in diabetes management. It covers the types of insulin and their pharmacokinetic properties, strategies for initiating and adjusting insulin regimens, and techniques for safe administration. The microcredential also provides insights into managing potential adverse effects and interactions.

The updated Find a CDE feature enhances visibility, making it easier for healthcare providers and clients to discover and connect with CDEs.

  • Comprehensive medication overview:

    Explore the mechanisms and clinical applications of glucose-lowering agents (GLAs),   Featuring practical tools to enhance learning including comparative medication charts, case studies and interactive quizzes.
  • Insulin therapy essentials:

    Refresh your existing knowledge or develop new skills in insulin management, enabling you to confidently recommend individual medication management plans. 
  • Quality Use of Medicines (QUM):

    Applying QUM principles in your practice ensures that diabetes medications are used effectively, safely, and appropriately.
